The Story of the Christmas Nativity Scene
One of the most sentimental traditions of the holiday season is bringing out your Christmas Nativity Scene. There are so many different styles of nativity scenes, but if you’re wanting the best nativity set, my A Savior is Born Nativity Set is an easy favorite!
My nativity scene figurines are hand crafted out of pewter, making them last through the generations. Your kids and grandkids will love being able to act out the nativity of Jesus with a whole set of nativity scene characters. This set is sure to make meaningful memories with the whole family.
With a handcrafted stable made of natural wood, my nativity set is both rustic and beautiful. A pewter star sits on top of the roof, guiding all to the newborn king. A sweet poem about the manger scene and Jesus’ birth is engraved on a pewter plaque inside, making this Christmas nativity scene even more meaningful.
There are so many unique characters in the nativity story that each have a wonderful role to share! Collect all the sets to complete your manager scene— like my Angels on High Figurine Set, Christmas Nativity Palm Tree Figurine, or the Little Drummer Boy + Ox Figurine Set. You can even get all these sweet additions all at once with the Nativity Figurine Add-on Set!
The collection is growing! Some of the first witnesses to Jesus’ birth were the animals in the manger— so you should make sure they are featured in your nativity scene. I have a Pair of Miniature Goats Nativity Figurine Set, a Flock of Sheep Nativity Figurine Set for your shepherds, an additional Two Wise Camels Nativity Figurine Set for your wisemen, and even an Extra Animal Nativity Figurine Set!
This is a nativity decoration like no other! I know so many of our friends can’t help but leave their nativity scene set out all year long as a daily reminder of the greatest story ever.
But what is Jesus’ story? You can find the whole story of His birth in the Gospels of the Bible {the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John}. Or, you can read on below for a quick summary of this incredible act of love!
The Nativity Story
Many years ago an angel appeared to a teenage girl named Mary. The angel told her not to be afraid, “You are going to have a baby and name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” (Luke 1:26-33).
Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem to register for the census. While they were there, it was time for Jesus to be born. (Luke 2:1-7).
When Jesus was born, they wrapped him in a cloth and laid Him in a manger because there was no place for Him in the inn. (Luke 2:7).
There were shepherds in the field nearby watching their sheep. The angel appeared to them and told them the good news! “Today a Savior is born for you in the city of David, who is Christ the Lord. Go and find Him wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:8-20).
After Jesus was born, three wisemen came from the East asking, “Where is the one born king of the Jews? For we saw His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” When they saw the baby who changed everything, they fell down, worshiped Him, and offered Him gifts. (Matthew 2:1-12).
When Jesus was born, He brought hope to all humanity. He brought joy to the world!

What the Nativity Means to Me
So many of us hear the nativity story every year. We know that Jesus’ birth was a humble one, how Mary and Joseph had to stay in a stable made for animals, and of all those who came to visit him once he was born. But with a Christmas nativity scene, you get to really see the meaning behind it all!
Seeing baby Jesus, our God taking form as a little baby, lying in a manger meant to hold hay for animals just moves my heart. He loved us SO MUCH He came to us as a baby so He could be with us and eventually die for us. God could have chosen anyone to be Jesus’ mother— a queen or a wealthy woman— but He picked a young girl who had very little. Mary and her husband Joseph weren’t wealthy or even influential. But they were chosen to raise and care for this new king!
I love seeing Jesus with the sweet little animals! They were his first friends there in that stable, so no nativity scene is complete without them. Donkeys, sheep, oxen, and more were all there to witness this miraculous birth! I wonder if they knew who Jesus was?
I love having both the wisemen and shepherds there in my Christmas Nativity Scene. To show that Jesus came to bring hope to all, God brought both the humble shepherds and the wealthy wisemen to Jesus’ side. While the wisemen were able to bring expensive gifts, the shepherds could only bring their praise. Both were given with open hearts and worship, making them beautiful gifts to this newborn king!
Then we have the angels and the bright star! These set Jesus apart from every other baby, revealing that He really is the Son of God. The angels are tasked with sharing the good news to the shepherds, while the star is what guided them and the wisemen to where Jesus lay. These signs from heaven are so important to the nativity story, and I love having the bright star above my stable! It’s what leads me to the Christmas story year after year.
